Craps is a game of chance involving 2 dice, alot of adrenaline and some interesting betting options. That much you should already know. You bet against other players or against the bank. This is a game that is very popular in North America, and is gaining ground quickly in Europe and Asia, although they tend to prefer a Chinese dice game called Sic Bo in Macau.

It might feel very American now, but craps originally came from an Old English dice game called Hazard, that is thought to date back to the time of the Crusades (and in fact was probably adapted from a Middle Eastern game).

If you play craps online, the casino sets the payout and you kick off by rolling your dice (unless you are playing at a Multiplayer table, in which case you will take your turn). The player rolling the dice is the "shooter" and other players make bets on the shooter's dice rolls.

The action progresses in stages. The 1st stage is the "come-out roll". The 2nd stage is where you set "the point" or end the game if you happen to roll a seven.

You can bet on various outcomes, but the most common is betting on the "Pass" line or the "Don't Pass" line.

First off, the shooter makes a "come-out roll" trying to set a point. If he or she rolls a 2, 3 or 12, this is called "craps" (the shooter is said to "crap out") and the round finishes with pass line bettors losing. An initial roll of 7 or 11 is called a "natural," meaning a win for pass line bets. The same shooter continues to roll until he or she has set a point:  ie has bagged numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10.

The dealer now puts on "On" button on the point number and the shooter continues rolling until he or she either rolls the point number or a seven. If the shooter rolls the point number again, all "pass line" bets win. If the shooter rolls a 7 (called a "seven-out"), the pass line loses. After the "seven-out", the dice is passed clockwise around the table to the next player.

Of course, online, you play against a virtual shooter (unless you are playing Live Craps which would be the same as playing at a land based casino apart from the fact that you are watching the action on a webcam).

One of the great things about craps is its rich history and vocabulary. Here are some of the terms you might here is you are sitting around the online craps table or playing the game online at a casino.
