In the Martingale System, players double up their bets after a loss to try and cover any losses.Your betting profile goes like this: 1,2,4,8,16,32 etc. As you progress up the sequence, you need to invest more and more money to wipe out your losses and to generate an overall profit on the run.
Most of the so called negative progression betting systems (when you increase your bets after a loss) have an alter-ego: the Martingale´s Siamese Twin is the Reverse Martingale, or Anti-Martingale.
In the Reverse Martingale, you still progress your bets bu doubling up every time, but instead of increasing your bets after a loss, you increase them after a win.
(Tip: try the Reverse Martingale at Ruby Fortune Casino and you´ll get 750 pounds to play with).

The idea is to maximise profits from a winning streak- it´s the ultimate optimist´s strategy!
Of course, you need to have a very clear plan of when you are going to stop doubling your bets, as a loss at any time will wipe out all of your wins (the exact opposite to The Martingale in other words.)
So if you are the type of gambler who often has hot streaks, or hot hands- this could be worth a try. If you have a cold streak, you´ll minimise your losses, of course, as you´ll be stuck on the lowest bet in your progression.
But remember to "Bank" profits as you go along. You will lose at some point on a hot streak. Get the timing wrong, and you will wipe out all of your profits, so reset the progression to zero at regular intervals. Make a plan before you hit the tables and stick to it religiously.
Financial traders often use a variant of this system if they see the market trend heading one way. They might start off by hedging their bets and going long and short (betting the market will go up and down). And if the market takes off one way, they´ll increase the value of their position in that direction.
Rememeber, though, that the game of roulette is a game of chance and each spin of the wheel is a mutually exclusive event. You should only be making loose compaisons to trading on the stock market!
